Glycemic Index and Milk

Glycemic Index of MilkGlycemic index milk – milk is considered one of nature’s perfect foods.  It can be a low-calorie snack and most people can enjoy the benefits of this dairy product.  Glycemic index milk has a very low glycemic load because it is natural sugar.  Skim milk has eleven grams of naturally occurring sugar in it.  Drinking milk has been known to speed up the recovery of muscle in bodybuilders after their workouts.

Low-glycemic carbohydrates under the index of fifty help us to drop excess weight.  Glycemic index milk can be found in whole milk dairy products with an index of thirty-five and low fat milk products having an index of thirty.  Plain unsweetened yogurt has an index of fifteen making it a perfect low-glycemic index food.

If we want to lose weight we have to remember it can’t be done by skipping meals.  Skipping meals tends to make our bodies store fat cells.  Glycemic index milk products are the perfect food for those of us wanting to lose weight or just get on a healthy diet.  Neglecting to give our bodies what they need to fight disease, fatigue and general poor health is abusing our bodies.  Milk provides the protein we need to retain firm muscles and keep those attractive figures we are so proud of.

Combining glycemic index milk products with other ingredients such as corn flakes which are high in glycemic index will still work if you are trying to lose weight.  The glycemic index for corn flakes is eighty-four which is considered high because it is over seventy.  One thing to keep in mind is that there are other breakfast cereals that may be a better choice then corn flakes.  All-Bran and Oat Bran are two of these cereals that have a forty-two and fifty-five glycemic index score respectively.  Each of our meals should include at least one food that has a low glycemic index.  Including foods containing a high glycemic index with a food that has a low glycemic index is recommended.  The food with the low glycemic index compensates for the food with high glycemic index.

There are other types of foods containing milk that have a low glycemic index beside whole milk.  Milk chocolate can also be a glycemic index milk product that has a glycemic index rating of forty-three which is very low.  If you were feeling guilty about eating that milk chocolate candy bar it’s alright to indulge yourself.  The carbohydrates in milk chocolate have a slow effect on blood sugar levels.  However, as with any other food it is best to eat milk chocolate in moderation.

So as you can see Glycemic index milk products are one of the best foods to add to your daily diet.   Remember a diet made up of low glycemic index foods is the best thing you can do for your body.  Glycemic index milk does not only refer to whole milk but also other products made of milk such as yogurt and cheese.  Treat yourself with love and keep your body in top shape so you can enjoy life to the fullest.
